Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: tellurium n., -ide suffix.
Etymology: < tellur- (in tellurium n.) + -ide suffix, after French telluride ( F.-S. Beudant Traité élém. de mineral. (1824) 460 in mineralogy; Berzelius 1826, in Ann. de chim. et de phys. 32 67 in chemistry). With sense 2 compare also German Tellurid (1826 or earlier in this sense, also after French).
1. Mineralogy. In the classification of Beudant: a mineral containing tellurium oxide as a main component. Obsolete. rare.
