Etymology: < Tellicherry, former name in English of Thalassery (Malayalam Talaśśēri), a town on the Malabar Coast of Northern Kerala, India + bark n.1The place name is attested from the late 17th cent. in English contexts.
Now historical and rare.
Bark derived from the tropical Asian tree Holarrhena pubescens (family Apocynaceae), which contains the alkaloid conessine and has been used medicinally in the treatment of dysentery and fever.
