单词 tereti-
释义

tereti-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is usually maintained on the first syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. teretifolious adj. Brit. /ˌtɛrᵻtᵻˈfəʊlɪəs/, U.S. /ˌtɛrədəˈfoʊliəs/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin tereti-.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin tereti-, combining form (in e.g. teretifolius : see teretifolious adj. ) of classical Latin teret- , teres terete adj.; compare -i- connective.
used in a few scientific terms. ˌteretiˈcaudate adj. [after scientific Latin tereticaudatus (1819 or earlier)] having a rounded tail, round-tailed ( Cent. Dict.). teretifolious adj. [after post-classical Latin teretifolius (1576 or earlier)] having terete leaves. ˌteretiproˈnator n. the round pronating muscle of the forearm (pronator radii teres). ˌteretiˈscapular n. [after scientific Latin teretiscapularis (1887 or earlier)] the greater round muscle (teres major) of the shoulder blade.
