Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek τελεσιουργικός.
Etymology: < Byzantine Greek τελεσιουργικός perfecting < ancient Greek τελεσιουργεῖν to bring to perfection, accomplish, in Hellenistic Greek also to perform mystic or magical rites ( < τελεσιουργός that completes a work, effective < τελεσι- , combining form of τέλος end (see telos n.; compare -i- connective) + -ουργός : see -urgy comb. form) + -ικός -ic suffix.
Obsolete.
Able to accomplish a desired goal or end; effectual, perfective. Cf. telestic adj.Chiefly in the context of Neoplatonism and the mystical or magical rites associated with it.
