Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: tele- comb. form, Greek ϕήμη.
Etymology: < tele- comb. form + ancient Greek ϕήμη report, words, speech (see pheme n.). N.E.D. (1911) gives the pronunciation as (te·lĭfīm) /ˈtɛlɪfiːm/.
Obsolete.
1. A proposed name for: a message sent by telegraph.Apparently an isolated use.
