Etymology: < teleo- comb. form1 + -stome comb. form, after scientific Latin Teleostomi, group (originally subclass) name ( R. Owen On Anat. Vertebr. (1866) I. 7).
Zoology.
A jawed vertebrate of the group Teleostomi, which was formerly a subclass comprising the osteichthyans (bony fishes) and frequently the acanthodians, and is now regarded as a clade that includes also the tetrapods.
