Etymology: < tele- comb. form + microscope n. With sense 2 compare French †télescope microscopique (1786 or earlier), post-classical Latin telemicroscopium (1844 or earlier in a German source).Compare earlier, rare, †teleomicroscope , apparently in sense 2a (compare -o- connective; after post-classical Latin teleomicroscopium, German Teleomikroskop (both 1844)):1860 R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. 1254/1 An instrument for enlarging or increasing the forms of more remote or indistinct objects: a teleomicroscope.
