Etymology: < classical Latin Achaemenius ( < the name of Achaemenēs (see Achaemenid n.) + -ius, suffix forming adjectives) + -an suffix.In use as noun originally after French Achémenien (1711 in the passage translated in quot. 1737 at sense B.).
