Etymology: In quot. 15001, branded apparently shows an error for brauded , variant (apparently otherwise unrecorded) of browded adj. at browd v. Derivatives. In quot. 15002, brandur apparently shows an error for braudur , variant of broudur embroidery (early 15th cent.) < Anglo-Norman braudure , Anglo-Norman and Middle French brodure , broidure embroidery (1260 in Old French; French (now regional: northern) brodure ; < broder , broider , brouder browd v. + -ure -ure suffix1). Compare branderer n.
misreading for brauded embroidered; so also brandur for braudur embroidery.
