释义

Taungn.

Brit. /taʊŋ/, U.S. /taʊŋ/, South African English /taʊŋ/
Forms: 1900s– Taung, 1900s– Taungs.
Origin: From a proper name. Etymons: proper name Taung, Taungs.
Etymology: < Taung, †Taungs (Setswana Taung; < tau lion, also used by members of a local group of people to refer to themselves + -ng, locative suffix), the name of a town in the Northern Cape Province, South Africa (now North West Province), where the remains were found in 1924.Setswana Taung is also used to denote a group of people in living in the area, and the form Taungs of the place name probably ultimately derives < an English plural form of the name of the Taung people (Setswana Bataung).
