Etymology: A West-of-England word, used from Cornwall to Berkshire, from Gloucestershire to Cheshire, and in English-speaking parts of South Wales; < Welsh taflod or taflawd feminine /ˈtavlɔd/dialect/ˈtalɔd/, loft, roof, in Old Irish taibled a storey, < medieval Latin tabulāta a boarded structure, a flooring, < tabulāre to board, floor.
