Origin: A borrowing from Sanskrit. Etymon: Sanskrit brāhmaṇa.
Etymology: < Sanskrit brāhmaṇa, neuter < brahman (neuter) the Veda (see Brahma n.1) + -a, derivative suffix.
Hinduism.
Any of a group of Vedic texts, composed in Sanskrit between c800 and 600 b.c. and containing expository material relating to Vedic sacrificial ritual.
