单词 takhaar
释义

takhaarn.adj.

Brit. /ˈtakhɑː/, U.S. /ˈtækˌhɑr/, /ˈtɑkˌhɑr/, South African English /ˈtʌkhɑː/
Inflections: Plural takhaare, takhaars.
Forms: 1800s taakhaarer, 1800s– takhaar, 1900s– taakhaar, 1900s– taakhaare (plural), 1900s– takhaaren (plural), 1900s– takhar, 1900s– takhara, 1900s– takhare (plural), 1900s– takkard, 1900s– tokhara.
Origin: A borrowing from Afrikaans. Etymon: Afrikaans takhaar.
Etymology: < Afrikaans takhaar (apparently late 19th cent.) < Dutch tak branch (see tack n.1) + haar hair (see hair n.). With the semantic development compare unkempt adj. O.E.D. Suppl. (1986) gives the pronunciation as (tā·khāɹ) /ˈtɑːkhɑː(r)/. In plural form takhaare after the Afrikaans plural form takhare . The form taak haarers (plural) in quot. 1899 results from reanalysis of the Afrikaans plural form as singular. The medial -er- in taakhaarer and the final -a in takhara, tokhara are attempts to represent the final schwa of the Afrikaans plural form. With the form takkard perhaps compare -ard suffix.
South African (frequently derogatory). Now historical.
