单词 -idine
释义

-idinesuffix

Primary stress is usually attracted to the syllable immediately preceding this suffix and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Forms:

α. 1800s– -idine.

β. 1800s– -idin.

Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation; partly modelled on a German lexical item. Probably partly formed within English, by clipping or shortening; partly modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: -ide suffix, -ine suffix5; quinidine n.
Etymology: Probably partly < -ide suffix + -ine suffix5, and partly < -idine (in quinidine n.). Compare French -idine (formations in which are found from at least the first half of the 19th cent., e.g. in anisidine (see anisidine n. at anis- comb. form ), phénétidine phenetidine n.). In β. forms after German -idin (formations in which are found from at least the late 19th cent., e.g. Mekonidin meconidine n., Neuridin neuridine n., Phenanthridin phenanthridine n.). Compare -idin suffix.Formations within English are found from the end of the first half of the 19th cent., apparently earliest in naphthalidine n., and slightly later in toluidine n., lutidine n., pyridine n., mesidine n., etc.
Chemistry.
Used to form the names of many organic compounds containing nitrogen which, with few exceptions (as guanidine), have molecules containing one or more rings; esp. (a) amino derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, as benzidine, mesidine, toluidine, xylidine; (b) heterocyclic compounds with nitrogen in the ring, as piperidine, pteridine, pyridine, pyrrolidine, quinidine; (c) pyrimidine nucleosides, as cytidine, thymidine, uridine. With heterocyclic compounds the use of the suffix -idine sometimes indicates the presence of a saturated ring; cf. -iridine suffix and see quot. 1995.
ΚΠ
1931 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. i. 1610 When a heterocyclic compound containing nitrogen but having a name not ending in ine gives basic compounds by progressive hydrogenation, such derivatives will be denoted by the successive terminations ine, idine. Examples: Pyrrole, pyrroline, pyrrolidine.
1995 E. W. Godly Naming Org. Compounds (ed. 2) ix. 38 If the ring is one of three, four, or five members and contains nitrogen atoms but no double bonds... The name-endings are ‘iridine’ for a three-membered ring, ‘etidine’ for a four-membered ring, and ‘olidine’ for a five-membered ring.
