Wagner Free Inst. Sci. (Philadelphia) 3 489 It is obvious that with a shell having elevated beaks distant from the hinge-line, and numerous ribs, many of the latter would intersect the hinge-line nearly at right angles, so as to form a series of denticulations..constituting the prototype of such teeth as were called Taxodont by Neumayr. 1943 J. Gardner Mollusca Miocene & Lower Pliocene Virginia & N. Carolina i. 28/2 Dall..considered the dysodont hinge to be essentially a taxodont hinge modified by umbonal torsion. 1961 J.
