Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin synergeticus; Greek συνεργητικός.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin synergeticus (1673 or earlier), or its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek συνεργητικός cooperative < ancient Greek συνεργεῖν to work together, cooperate ( < συν- syn- prefix + ἐργεῖν to work < ἔργον work: see erg n.1) + -τικός , suffix forming adjectives from verbs (compare -ic suffix). Compare earlier synenergetical adj.
= synergistic adj. (in various senses).
