Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: table n., prayer n.1
Etymology: < table n. + prayer n.1 With sense 1 compare post-classical Latin precatio mensaria (1622 in the passage translated in quot. 1657 at sense 1), German Tischgebet (1693 or earlier).
1. A prayer said at table, usually one said before eating.
