Etymology: Latin tābēs wasting away, dissolution, consumption.
1. Pathology. Slow progressive emaciation of the body or its parts; consumption. Common in medical Latin names of specific diseases, as tabes dorsalis, locomotor ataxia, tabes mesenterica, tuberculosis in the mesenteric glands, etc.
