Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin systolicus (1603 or earlier), and its probable model (ii) French systolique (1546 in Middle French as sistolique , in the passage translated in quot. 1693; < Middle French sistole systole n. + -ique -ic suffix). Compare diastolic adj.
