Etymology: Apparently < swink n. + -head suffix.Compare Old English geswincnes , swincnes , in the same sense (compare -ness suffix). It has alternatively been suggested that the form swinched in the sole example of this word may be an error for swinch (or its plural swinches ), variant of swink n. (compare the α. forms at that entry).
Obsolete. rare.
