Etymology: < Sanskrit Śvetāmbara, lit. ‘white-clad’, as both monks and nuns of the sect wear white robes.

One of the two principal sects of Jainism, whose ascetic practices are less extreme than those of the Digambaras. Also, an adherent of this sect. Frequently attributive.
