Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French surexcitation.
Etymology: < French surexcitation (1822) < sur- sur- prefix + excitation excitation n.
Now somewhat rare.
Originally: the state of an organ of the body being excessively stimulated or overactive. Later usually: excessive intellectual, emotional, or sexual excitement. Also: an instance of this.
