1966 H. Johnson Wine 103 Muscadet bottled in the March after the vintage is called, and often labelled, sur lie—on its lees.
1974 Good Housek. Bk. Wine iii. 52 On a Muscadet label, the phrase sur lie means that it was bottled straight out of the cask, or in other words ‘off the lees’, without the wine being racked or filtered off the deposit in the cask.
