Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin supernitas.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin supernitas exaltedness (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < classical Latin supernus supern adj. +-tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare earlier supern adj., supernal adj.
Now rare.
The quality or fact of being supernal; exaltedness. Also: a supernal being.
