单词 supermundane
释义

supermundaneadj.

Brit. /ˌsuːpəmʌnˈdeɪn/, /ˌsjuːpəmʌnˈdeɪn/, U.S. /ˈˌsupərˌmənˈˌdeɪn/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin supermundanus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin supermundanus above the world, heavenly (6th cent.) < super- super- prefix + mundānus mundane adj., after Byzantine Greek ὑπερκόσμιος . Compare earlier supermundal adj. Compare also later supramundane adj., and foreign-language forms cited at that entry. N.E.D. (1917) indicates the stress as superˈmundane (compare etymological note at mundane adj. and n.).
