1976 Berkshire Eagle (Pittsfield, Mass.) 24 June 19/1 ‘Of Thee I Sing’ was America's first ‘sung through’ musical with recitative interludes furthering the story.
1984 Financial Times 30 July 9 Franz Lachner composed..recitatives to remove the dialogue and make up a ‘sung-through’ opera.
2006 M. Vermette Musical World of Boublil & Schönberg ii. 41 A sung-through musical has a book too, only instead of dialogue there is recitative.
