Etymology: < post-classical Latin supracaelestis (4th cent.; frequently from 13th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin suprā- supra- prefix + caelestis (see celestial adj.), with remodelling of the second element after celestial adj. Compare earlier supercelestial adj.In quot. 1811 (ultimately) after ancient Greek ἐπουράνιος heavenly (with reference to John 3:12).
