Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin supputāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin supputāre to trim off the lower branches of, to prune below, to estimate by calculation, to reckon up < sup- sub- prefix + putāre to trim, prune, to clear up, settle, reckon (see putation n.). Compare Middle French, French supputer (16th cent.). Compare later supputate v.
Now rare.
