Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin supputation-, supputatio.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin supputation-, supputatio calculation, reckoning (late 2nd cent. in Tertullian) < classical Latin supputāt- , past participial stem of supputāre suppute v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French, French supputation (1532).In sense 3 after classical Latin supputāre in sense ‘to trim off the lower branches of, to prune below’. In form subputation remodelled after classical Latin sub- sub- prefix.
