Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin supervīvere.
Etymology: < classical Latin supervīvere to remain alive longer, in post-classical Latin also to outlive (frequently from 12th cent. in British sources) < super- super- prefix + vīvere to live (see vivat int.). Compare earlier survive v. and the Romance forms cited at that entry. Earlier currency may be implied by superviver n.1
Obsolete.
