Etymology: < super- prefix + tax n.1
An additional tax levied on something that is already taxed; esp. a higher rate of tax on incomes above a certain level.Supertax was levied in the United Kingdom at the rate of six pence in the pound on incomes of over £5000 per annum between 1909 and 1929, when it was replaced by surtax (see surtax n.), though the designation remained in popular use.
