释义 | superspacen. 1. Space of four dimensions, as proposed in the theory of relativity; (Science Fiction) any notional generalization of ordinary three-dimensional space in which space travel is imagined to take place. ΚΠ 1905 C. G. Harrison in Occult Rev. Sept. 128 The theory of Mr. Hinton that, as it is only in ultimate particles that the magnitudes of all four dimensions would be comparable, our proportions in this super-space must be extremely minute. 1910 Dawn (San Francisco) Nov. 5 The fourth dimension is also called super-space and hyper-space. 1922 Amer. Econ. Rev. 12 192 We should not sympathize with the mathematical enthusiast who concluded his demonstration of a new theorem in super-space by thanking God that no one could make any use of the result. 1954 If Mar. 69/2 What we know about the hyperspace, or superspace, or whatever it is we move through in ultradrive is almost nothing. 1986 A. C. Clarke Songs of Distant Earth 50 There were fundamental reasons why the immense energies of superspace, though they were real enough, could never be tapped. 2004 D. Kantrowitz Reckless Faith 35 If we could discover the process by which the hyper-energized particles are converted into dark matter, then we could suspend a spacecraft in a force field, reverse the process, and send the craft into superspace. 2. Physics. A concept of space-time arising out of the attempt to quantize the gravitational field, in which points are defined by more than the usual four coordinates. Also: a space of infinitely many dimensions postulated to contain actual space-time and all possible spaces; a multiverse. A. Wheeler in C. DeWitt & B. DeWitt Relativity, Groups & Topol. 452 (heading) ‘Slope’ in one-particle dynamics and in the superspace of 3-geometries. 1968 J. A. Wheeler in Battelle Rencontres 1967 ix. 246 One climbs up to the concept of geometry only to find a new height beyond—superspace. Superspace is the manifold, a single point of which stands for an entire 3-geometry. 1971 Daily Tel. 7 May (Colour Suppl.) 35 Inside superspace there is neither space nor time. 1975 Physics Lett. B. LVI. 178/2 The usual supersymmetry transformation is then a linear transformation in the 8 dimensional ‘superspace’ of zA. 1980 P. Davies Other Worlds v. 104 Each space of superspace will contain its own superworld of all possible particle arrangements. 1994 New Scientist 15 Jan. 39 Every singularity..has its own set of space-time dimensions, forming a bubble universe within the framework of some ‘super’ space-time, which we can refer to simply as ‘superspace’. 2005 M. Lockwood Labyrinth of Time (2007) xiv. 352 In this classical picture, superspace is a vast expanse of No-geometries within which there is embedded a thin leaf of yes-geometries.
