Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: sub- prefix, Latin trūdere.
Etymology: < sub- prefix + classical Latin trūdere to thrust (see trusion n.). Compare post-classical Latin subtrudere to push from underneath, to replace (16th cent.).

1. transitive. To introduce (something) secretly or by stealth. Also intransitive: to thrust itself in unobtrusively. Obsolete.
