Etymology: < classical Latin subsultāt-, past participial stem of subsultāre subsult v. + -ory suffix2; compare -atory suffix2. In later use apparently after Italian sussultorio (18th cent. or earlier).
Obsolete. rare.
Involving or characterized by sudden leaps, jerks, or starts; = subsultory adj.
