Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative. With use as noun compare bufe n., poof n.2, doof n.2, and also buff n.1, baff n.1, biff n. With use as interjection compare oof int., whoof int., woof int. and n.2, poof int., doof int., and also biff int.
