a. Any of a range of synthetic dyestuffs in various colours from orange-yellow to black. Chiefly as a modifier, as Sudan dye, Sudan stain, etc.Sudan dyes are diazo compounds typically having a 2-hydroxynaphthalene group in their molecules.
