Etymology: < post-classical Latin substantiatus, past participle of substantiare substantiate v. + -ed suffix1. Compare slightly later substantiate v.
That has been substantiated (in various senses of the verb); given substance, made real. Now usually: (of a fact, claim, etc.) verified, justified with evidence.With quot. 1581 cf. substantiation n. 1.
