Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: sub- prefix, solar adj.
Etymology: < sub- prefix + solar adj., originally (in senses 1 and 2) after post-classical Latin subsolaris earthly (12th cent. in a British source), exposed to the sun (1608 in the passage translated in quot. 1657 at sense 2). Compare subsolary adj. Compare also supersolar adj. at super- prefix 2a(a)(i).
