Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin subsīdent-, subsidēns, subsīdere.
Etymology: < classical Latin subsīdent-, subsidēns, present participle of subsīdere subside v. Compare Middle French subsident (of a sediment) that is at the bottom of a liquid (1557). Compare subsiding adj.
1. Precipitating out of suspension or solution; settling as a sediment. Obsolete.
