Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French superbité.
Etymology: < Middle French superbité (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1549; earlier as superbiété , 15th cent. in an isolated attestation) < superbe superb adj. + -ité -ity suffix. Compare Middle English superbie (see note at superbious adj.).
Now archaic.
Pride, arrogance.In quot. 1903 concrete: an embodiment of this, a proud person.
