Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin subluxation-, subluxatio.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin subluxation-, subluxatio (1538 or earlier) < classical Latin sub- sub- prefix + luxātiō luxation n., after Hellenistic Greek παράρθρημα (Galen). Compare French subluxation (1542 or earlier in Middle French).
1. Medicine and Surgery. Partial displacement or dislocation, esp. of the bones at a joint; an instance of this.
