Etymology: < suber n. + -ification suffix, after French subérification (1862 or earlier). Compare German Verkorkung (see suberization n.).Compare:1872 Jrnl. Bot., Brit. & Foreign 10 173 The gradual formation of a layer of peridermal cells through the petiole—‘subérification’ Dr. Ledeganck calls it.
