单词 suberic
释义

subericadj.

Brit. /suːˈbɛrɪk/, /sjuːˈbɛrɪk/, U.S. /suˈbɛrɪk/
Forms: 1700s suberique, 1700s– suberic.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a Italian lexical item. Etymons: suber n., -ic suffix.
Etymology: < suber n. + -ic suffix, probably after either French subérique (1796 or earlier designating the acid, in acide subérique; 1786 or earlier in sense ‘of or relating to the cork oak’) or Italian suberico (1793 or earlier; acido suberico is apparently not attested until later: 1802 or earlier).Suberic acid was discovered by the Italian scientist L. V. Brugnatelli in 1787. In the first account of his discovery ( Chemische Ann. (1787) 1 145), written in German, he named it Korksäure ; in a French summary of this paper ( Jrnl. de physique (1787) 31 91), he used the name acide de liège . Both the German and the French names literally mean ‘acid of cork’. In form suberique after French subérique.
Chemistry.
1. suberic acid n. a crystalline dibasic acid obtained by the action of nitric acid on cork and other plant materials and also present in castor oil.Systematic name: octanedioic acid; HOOC(CH2)6COOH.
