Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: stuck adj.2, -ism suffix.
Etymology: < stuck adj.2 + -ism suffix.Coined in 1999 by British artist Charles Thomson (born 1953), the name of the movement alludes to the following extract from a poem by its co-founder, writer, artist, and musician Billy Childish (born Steven John Hamper, 1959), which is itself based on a comment on the poet's work by artist Tracey Emin (born 1963):1994 ‘B. Childish’ Big Hart & Balls 59 His paintings are stuck stuck stuck! he is stuck!The first exhibition staged by this group of artists, entitled Stuck! Stuck! Stuck!, was held at Gallery 108 in Hoxton, East London, in September 1999.
