1. Something subjoined or attached beneath; (Mathematics) †a straight line or a plane obtained by extending a given straight line or plane (obsolete rare). Also figurative: something subordinate.Apparent examples in some earlier texts are errors for subject, caused by proximity to a word such as adjunct.

Subsequently: a class of adverbial which has a subordinate role in relation to other clause elements and is used in the expression of viewpoint, courtesy, emphasis, etc.
