Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: sub- prefix, continuous adj.
Etymology: < sub- prefix + continuous adj. In sense 1 after scientific Latin subcontinuus (1766 or earlier). In sense 2 after post-classical Latin subcontinuus (see subcontinual adj.). Compare earlier subcontinual adj. and subcontinued adj.
