Origin: Apparently formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymon: additament n.
Etymology: Apparently a shortening of additament n. Compare post-classical Latin addimentum (1702 or earlier; < classical Latin addere add v. + -mentum -ment suffix). In sense 2 after German Addiment ( P. Ehrlich & J. Morgenroth 1899, in Berliner klin. Wochenschr. 2 Jan. 7/1).
