Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin statu quo , -ite suffix1.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin statu quo (also in statu quo : see in statu quo adv.) + -ite suffix1. Compare status quo n., and later statu quo-ism n.
Chiefly humorous. Now rare.
A person who favours the existing state of affairs; spec. one who believes that human society remains in more or less the same state throughout history, neither progressing nor deteriorating.
