Etymology: Either (i) an alteration of standenguss n., after stander n. and grass n.1 (compare bollock grass n. at bollock n. and adj. Compounds), or (ii) < stander-, alteration (either after stander n. or by phonological assimilation to the -r- in the second element) of standel- (in standelwort n.) + grass n.1 The β. forms show further alteration after standard n. (compare branch II. at that entry).
Now historical and rare.
