Etymology: < Stancarus (see below) + -ian suffix.
Historical.
One of those Protestants in the 16th cent. who adopted the opinion of Stancarus (Francesco Stancari of Mantua, 1501–74) that the Atonement of Christ was wrought by His human nature only. Also attributive or adj. (Cf. Osiandrian n. and adj.)
